Where are the noisiest places in New York City? Or, more specifically, which ZIP codes across the five boroughs of New York City generated the most noise complaints? Homeowners and renters looking to understand the noise levels of specific neighborhoods can look at the total quantities displayed below, and refer to the linked other visualizations to view the types of noise complaints (construction, barking dogs, and so forth). Note the complaints simply reflect the number of initial calls to NYC 311, without accounting for residential density or possible duplications.

4. Visualization: Generate a series of 60 choropleth maps (geographic heat maps) representing the total quantity of 311 noise complaints by ZIP code, with each map displaying density by month. An animation can then be created showing a timelapse of noise “flashes” by ZIP code with each month’s total appearing for one second, elapsing January 2017 to December 2022 in 60 seconds.
